Parish & Community Service
Grace youth bake bread for Holy Week Eucharist services.
The Community Ministry Committee coordinates Grace’s program of giving to community groups. This year’s special emphasis is on Grace’s pledge to support the Millenium Development Goals with a 0.7% contribution of the parish budget. Grace volunteers work at Samaritan Center, Habitat for Humanity's Re-Store and the Salvation Army's Lohman Prayer Garden.
Grace Church is directly involved in global ministry efforts. Our Sierra Leone members work each year to raise funds for scholarships for students in Sierra Leone. Last spring Grace member Lisa Fox was one of a group of five people from the Diocese of Missouri to visit our companion diocese of Lui in the Sudan. She has written extensively about her experiences on the Lui blog. The Parish Nurse provides health education and referrals to community resources. The nurse provides individual consultations on request. The Parish Nurse works with the guidance of the Parish Nurse Committee, made up of praishioners with experience in the health professions.
Lay Pastoral Care involves many lay members who work with the rector to serve those in the parish community in special need. These individuals include the Lay Eucharistic Visitors who carry the sacrament to those in nursing homes or confined at home as well as those who make regular visits to nursing homes. The Prayer Shawl Ministry knits shawls and presents them to individuals as a tangible reminder of the caring community at Grace. If you know someone at Grace with a Pastoral Care need, please inform the rector.
The Parish Life Committee plans and coordinates a wide range of social activities and opportunities for fellowship within the parish. These have traditionally included Dinner for 8, the Social Graces for married and single young adults, special trips to concerts or theater performances, parish community meals on special occasions, and many other activities designed to provide hospitality and an opportunity for fellowship.
